Big Bucks in High Winds

Unread postby johndeere506 » Thu Jan 01, 2015 2:34 am

25 mph with 35 gusts. Its finally cold here, do you find that big bucks get up to feed in the cold even with high winds? These are pressured hard all season and I saw a good one last night out of range. Higher winds and colder today and tomo. I'll be hunting regardless of responses, just wondering...

I'm going to say no, not really. High winds may give you an opportunity to put a stalk on a bedding area though. Or at least get as close as possible early and set up. Deer get really nervous and jumpy in high winds.

I've experienced that deer move as long as two senses aren't impaired. With high winds they loose hearing only. If you add snow or rain with high winds then they loose sight and hearing so don't move. That's been my experiences.

Late in the season and cold The last 1/2 hr of the day is your best bet. I love hunting in the wind early season and rut though.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.
