Depending on the year, $1500-$2500/year. Much more if you consider off season scouting.
I boonedock most of the fall to keep over expenses down.

Re: how much a year do you spend $$$$ on gas for hunting
I drive a ton, my spots cover a 4 county area, all within about 45 minutes of home but in all directions. I drive even more for work, 50-70,000 miles a year all together.
It doesn't cost all that much though. If you see a 6'-5" 240 lb guy unfold himself from a toyota yaris then you will know you have met me

Re: how much a year do you spend $$$$ on gas for hunting
Wow I'm not the only one. Starting this past season the areas I hunt now are 108 miles away. 4 trips post season scouting/running cameras. 4 tips preseason scouting/ running cameras making sets. 11-12 hunts, all day trips. 10 trips to the archery range that's 27 miles away. About $700 in gas but that's only because I have a lot of cameras now helping me be more efficient with the scouting and because gas has come down. Next vehicle has to have better mpg.

A lot!! Never added it up though. Hunting is my life and it costs money to hunt away from home in good areas..

Re: how much a year do you spend $$$$ on gas for hunting
I spend a lot on gas driving for hunting. Simply because most of the areas I grew up learning to hunt are a couple hours from where I live. I've never added it up but I'm certain I could buy a couple years worth of Japanese hand massaged beef steaks with what I use for one year in hunting fuel.
A couple years ago we bought a Toyota Prius because we needed a new car and I have a pretty good commute to work. Well a few years ago I shot a nice 10 pt while I had the car and figured I could get it in there. Yup - no problem, deer fit right in with the fold down seats and hatchback. Now I use the car in any locations that I don't need high ground clearance or 4x4. I try to use the car as much as I can now, often times it saves me $50 a trip! To me that's a lot!
Since the 10 point my wife and I have registered many deer with them stuffed in the car. Let me tell you the looks we get at the registration station!
Here's a picture of the "October Lull Buck" in the car.

Re: how much a year do you spend $$$$ on gas for hunting
I've made about 12 trips to public and hour or hour and a half away. It usually costs about 20-25 per trip. So 300 so far. I'd love to have a small 4 wheel drive. I bought my father in laws 2000 model z71. I love a truck tho. Easy to get in and out of. It got dings and scratches so no big deal if you have to go in somewhere rough.
People around here that have connections join private clubs costing anywhere from 500-1500. Most of these are sitting over a greenfield in a shooting house. Nothing wrong with that but I'm drawn to the chase on public land.

Awesome pic trailcamaddict... I realize it's just part of getting on big bucks. But for me alot of times I drive to get away from weekend pressure. Mon-Thurs public marsh isn't so bad by my house. But I can drive to spots where I will be only car and I just prefer that.

Re: how much a year do you spend $$$$ on gas for hunting
That Prius pic is incredible!
Most of my hunting the last few years has been between 4 and 20 miles with a couple of trips about 200 for weekends. Planning to expand my horizons going forward a little though. Probably won't add it up, easier to play dumb with the wife that way (though I can still get several longer trips for the price of a spa day for her).
My wife asked what my deer head from this year was going to cost, I responded about 1.5 Pottery Barn light fixtures. I think we both walked away satisfied with that response!

I was right at $500 in fuel and close to that in motel costs.

Re: how much a year do you spend $$$$ on gas for hunting
Thankfully most of my hunting gas gets split 2-3 ways, otherwise it would be several thousand…
By season's end I will have spent about 150 hours on the road…
I love the Prius pic. The Tundra 4x4 MPG is a killer.

I will admit it I tree hug everytime I reach a strap around especially those gerthy ones....then I spend the rest of the evening in back rub position...then I re-hug taking straps down as I leave
