Buck Bedding and Gator Dens

Unread postby Swampbuck » Sat Dec 06, 2014 1:45 am

What impact do you boys think Big ole Alligators will have on Buck Bedding?

In my limited experience there needs to be about 100 yd barrier between them for the buck to feel comfortable

Made a scout the other day and was pretty warm. After some tromping around I walked up on a monster gator, the pic doesnt do him justice but he was a good 12'. Being only aout 10' away and him eyeballing me, wasnt in my photographer mode!

Hightailed it the other way, and about 100 yds away found a pretty decent buck bed and some old rubs. I doubt i will be walking past this baby dragon to get to him though

Two weeks earlier i saw a real nice old rub, jumped out my pirogue(mini canoe) and it had a major gator slide past it. Left that one alone as well. Either i'm getting better at finding gator bedding than bucks or maybe they have worked out a deal and tag teaming thier protective barriers  :D

The bucks there are probably use to them and know to keep their distance but I doubt they stay too far away, heck they might even like to bed near them to keep other predators away.

I'll take hunting with wolves over gators and snakes any day, good luck swamp!

The issue here is you're hunting in a swamp that the gators out number the deer 1,000 to 1. Snakes are 1,500 to 1 & skeeters are a billion to 1!!!!

I'll take the cold and winter thank you very much. Twelve foot gators walking in or out in the dark is not something I'd like to contend with!

I just found some swamps I thought about checking out. Problem is there's gators...and snakes. That just doesn't excite me to much

I can't say on the gators. I have never hunted in gator swamps. I do like spiders and snakes though.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

The snakes bother me more than the gators, those mocassins are mean!!

This guys swam under me last season but he was only about 6-7'. I tossed him some sacks from the tree but he seemed only interested in the sun

Are the gators not aggressive? Especially if you stumble onto one? That would be my fear....wading through some water and walking up on one of these...not to mention the walk out at dark! I agree on the moccasins.
