Weve got a lot of rain coming here in MI. It just warmed up 30 deg in 2 days. Worth hunting or no? Ive had mixed results in the rain before. If you hunt in the rain, do you find the same areas work or do you hunt different areas during rain?
For example, when its windy, I like to hunt more open areas. Ive noticed the deer go for the clearings in wind, they seem real nervous in the woods with wind. This is for gun hunting btw.

Re: Hunting during rain.
I used to hunt rain or shine. I found over the years that after the rain quits is much better than when it's raining. Light mist is ok heavy rain I'm waiting until it quits. When you hunt in the rain there is so much preparation afterwords that you sometimes trade the bad for the good. If I burn myself out when it is raining I'm less likely to hunt after it quits. I think getting all your stuff dried out makes it harder to go the next day when the conditions are better.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

Light to migrate rain I hunt it. Dying everything out afterwards is a pain, but I have had too much good luck to not hunt it.

I will wait out a downpour and head out after it slows. A steady rain that is supposed to last a long time, I still-hunt. Very light rain or passing showers I will hut normal.
No Shortcuts. No Excuses. No Regrets.

I've never seen any deer in a moderate or heavier rain, but when it stops or slows to a drizzle I've always seen some...I had a little 6 point walk by me while I was sitting on the ground in a drizzle...he was just out of arms reach.

I've seen quite a bit of deer movement in light rain and decent movement in moderate rain, especially if it has been raining for a while. Similarly, I've seen quite a few big backs at the tail end of a windy period. My best buck was shot in light rain.

I was out scouting the national forest this morning in a moderate rain and walked up on two does and a buck working a scrape line. The buck was fun to watch as he never saw me. Now if he will just come back when I am in my stand.

I hunt any rain except hard. Light rain is the best hunting in my opinion

Gun hunting in the rain is awesome... Its some of the best hunting I have had. Deer are bedded and you just sneak into the bedding areas on a cross wind and shoot the buck when you see them... You will get real good at figuring out bedding areas like this. The rain will keep the leaves from crunching, cover your noise, and distract the buck.
Go in on a cross wind, a "just off wind"... Bucks will be looking directly down wind from there bed, coming in from and angle will give you a big advantage. Several of my biggest bucks were shot this way, not always with rain, but rain certainly makes it easier... Rain and wind even better.

I've got close to several deer in high winds like this. Do you find they bed in thicker areas with a rain or same areas?

Re: Hunting during rain.
Thanks for all the tips. This was a moderate and short rain and I hunted it, saw a few doe but that was it. Next time, with anything heavier, Ill still hunt into bedding. Not sure why I never thought of that...DUH
