Hunting the wind during gun season.
How many here scrap hunting the wind during gun season? I hunt the wind as much during gun season as I do during bow season. I also am just as picky with my entry/exit routes during gun season. With gun season opening Saturday here in WI, I am amazed at the people I talk to that have their spot picked out. That's where they will sit come or high water, or the wrong wind. A few of the guys I have talked to about this are meticulous hunters during bow season. But who am I to argue as these guys usually shoot nice bucks with the gun also. Their strategy is to be in their best stands opening day, regardless of wind. I just can't see the point of having your scent blowing towards a bedding area. Looks like they are calling for a SW wind opening morning in our area, which means my son and I will be hunting some of my fringe, safer stands. Does anyone else approach gun season the same as they do bow season? Good luck all, have fun, and be safe.

I hunt rifle season the same way as bowhunting, always paying attention to the wind. Where I hunt pressure is very low so the deer are moving naturally. Only thing I do different is set up in areas I have a little more range for shooting. Don't know why because my average rifle kill is less than 30 yards.

I know which way the wind is blowing... but I still hunt a "wrong" wind stand due to the range of a rifle. Hunting low also comes into play... although I have not shot a deer in years with the rifle!
I just don't enjoy it as much.....

I will take more of a chance with a rifle in hand with the wind but if at all possible I play the wind every time I go to the woods. Agree with Bucky on rifle just isn't nearly as exciting to me compared to bow hunting. Could have shot my buck this year in rifle season with a bow, 35 yards

I always look at the wind, but I admit I don't let it stop me. Deer by me get pushed around the first day and you never know which direction they will choose. I do find that pushed deer will usually head into the wind when they are running. Seems there is so much scent around though and I don't know if it really matters until they are too close to know it.
