Does the original cape of a buck mount mean anything to you?
Say you shot a buck and want to get it shoulder mounted. Does the mount having the original cape mean anything to you? Say the cape got damaged dragging it out or someone screwed up while caping it. When you look at the mount would you feel different knowing it is a cape from a different deer?

but having a different cape on it wont make me think less of the deer, no.
I am proud of him. It was a poor hit and really hard to find. I have never been in that situation and am proud I was able to recover what I did.

To a certain point, yes, but if it not from my own doing it doesnt bother me. I have a few deer that are not the original cape, dragging him out for some reason i think he was sick from something but all his hair just cam right off, he was totally bald on the one side. Didnt bother me then to get a diff cape.

I like to see the original hair length and color(s)... but if I had a yote eat one I wanted to mount I would have no problem getting a replacement cape

For me, I think the original cape makes it a little more personal, and would probably generally lean towards just doing a euro if there was a cape issue on one of mine, but with the right deer and situation I certainly wouldn't lose sleep over it.

I have had to replace capes before. I would rather have the original cape. That said I can live with a replacement cape.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

I prefer the original cape but that said I need to have one re done. For some reason the hair keeps turning a tinged yellow color like it has been sitting in a bar for 20 years. I'm not sure if the taxidermist screwed up or what.

I have had two bucks get ate up by coyotes, one of which was this year. I would love to have the original cape to him but some things you have no control over. I will not hesitate to use a different cape On them if I have too
