Re: Did I miss the rut?
You missed the best portion of the pre-rut. A lot of guys did. If you are in a lower pressure area of MI, you still have the best portion of the post rut to look forward to.

Depends what you consider "the rut". Chasing is basically over based on my observations. Nov 9th I saw a mature buck tending a doe, so I think all the big guys are breeding at the moment. Best odds are to luck your way onto a hot doe or catch a cruiser between doe bedding.

Re: Did I miss the rut?
I hunted from Nov 24-Nov 5 and only saw rut action on the last day. Didn't hunt Nov 1-2 because I was really sick but locals told me it was extremely slow then as well. Normally Halloween until Nov 3 is very good consistently every year for me but this year it seemed like if you didn't have a hot doe in the area it was a struggle to see any bucks. This us the first year I didn't see any action from early rut cruisers running active scrape lines. It was a strange year and areas that were pounded with buck sign in the past had zero deer sign. I feel very blessed that I was in the right spot for a hot doe to show up otherwise I think my rut would have been nonexistent this year. I know many good hunters that hunted hard and never saw a good buck. The rut can be a tough if you are out of position by only a few hundred yards. Seen it many times and you can completely miss out on the action while a guy a short distance away may have the best hunt of his life. I just happened to be on the lucky side this year.

Re: Did I miss the rut?
Central Indiana report:
Been hunting all day every day since Sunday (11/9). Saw the most chasing and rut action today, which is partially a function of where I was sitting but: just about got run over by a grunting buck chase train pre-dawn before I made it up to the stand. Had to have been 4-5 bucks with the doe and it sounded like horses going through the woods. After that saw 3 bucks harassing a doe who clearly was not receptive but they didn't care. I later discovered that a mature buck was tending/breeding a doe about 20 yds from this spot so the other bucks were probably looking for the next best thing. Saw a mature back cruising solo at 1 PM and fudged my chances after getting a little buck fever. Then around 3:30 I had a group of 3 bucks chase a hot doe right by me. Not a single shooter in the group which suggests that many (not all) of the large bucks are locked down breeding does right now.
All told saw 22 deer in the woods sitting 6 am to 6 pm with 10 different bucks including 2 shooters.

Re: Did I miss the rut?
I've recently learned it's so area specific. Here at my house it's always the second-third week in January. It always hits on those weeks too. On some national forest land I'm hunting an hour away, it's about to kick in...probably the end of this week into the first week of December. Supposedly the deer are from Michigan. Then an hour in another direction, it hits toward the end of December. So I can drive an hour in any direction and hunt from the end of November until January and hit rut lol

Re: Did I miss the rut?
I'm not far from you Wolfie in Michigan..based on my observations and my other friends who hunt..full rut seems to be over..bucks seem to be just hanging with does at the moment..not chasing. But I believe they will start to go for round two shortly..seems to happen every year

Re: Did I miss the rut?
Pretty slow here as well. All of my rut stands and areas have been a wash. Have seen plenty of does everywhere and great buck sign but no chasing or daylight activity from any big boys.
