Re: leeward side?
Example: North wind, south facing hill side is out of the wind (leeward).

Re: leeward side?
ok thank you now you base that off the current wind condition for that day not the predominant wind correct? ex bucks will travel the south side on a north wind and north side on a south wind or they will only travel the south side when its a north wind if north was the prodominant wind for that are? not sure if that makes sense

Re: leeward side?
Those bucks like to travel along the 1/3rd elevation line where the prevailing wind meets the rising thermals off the leeward edge on a north wind. Im guessing because the aerodynamics of the terrain are creating tunnels of air for scent checking. That south wind, the wind is pushing the thermals over the ridge where the warm air cools and sinks onto the slope on the other side.

Re: leeward side?
top 1/3 from the top is where they will likely be...you need to set up above them and get high enough that your scent stream is not blowing within the thermal tunnel. Milkweed is a great wind checker for this...

True, moving air is always the enemy of you don't use it your advantage. The 1/3rd line on a topo usually a thicker bold line, and I believe it also has an elevation reading on that line also.
