My season in the marsh out of the canoe
Guys I have been quiet most of the season, Ive been busy at work and only picking the right days to hunt. The last couple of years I have really been digging hunting the tidal marshes of south Jersey. I have located some awesome areas with limited pressure by accessing by water. I have basically put my hunt filming on hold this year and just plain concentrated on enjoying the hunt and taking it all in.
So Oct. 4th first canoe trip in to the main tidal water system Ive been hunting last two years. Doe patrol
after a short blood trail her was my first boat rider of the fall.
Fast forward to October 30th first all day sit of the year, sat morning seen over 20 deer two shooters but not shots offered, pulled set went back to canoe, ate lunch paddled over to another spot that was perfect for the wind change that got me out of the first set up. I will save you all the details but I set up on some of the best sign I've found in a while. Long story short this was my last sit for the buck tag in my pocket and anything over 2 1/2 was gonna be in trouble. After passing on smaller bucks, this guy came in I liked his brows, he made antler restrictions for this county and he got shot at the first time he went broadside.
November 1st our permit bow season started, I couldn't hunt until the 8th, the first time out I got up at 315 am to paddle back in to an area that was great last year on the 8th of November. I was set up well before shooting light only to have a slob walk right through my set at 12 yards 6 minutes before legal light. As the morning went on I had deer of all ages and sizes come to calls chase, tend, spar, and just travel through this set. Some of the bucks were shooters, some weren't some offered shots some didn't, but when I called in the fourth buck of the morning and he approached from the downwind side I got a glimpse of his rack and pulled the Hoyt of the tree peg. as he approached he looked for the mating pair he had just heard over in this area, but then hit my scent stream, locked up and began to figure things out, at that time I noticed the sun was blinding his close eye and drew my bow, at 15 yards I settled my 20 yard pin on his slightly quartering towards my shoulder and double lunged him as he began he swirl, he ran about 50 yards and it was over.
After I looking back on this season I have had one of the most satisfying of my life. The paddle out with a deer in the canoe on a full moon, or the satisfaction of knowing your going farther then 99% of fellow hunters to accomplish a goal is awesome and I thank God for the chance to still be able to get out.

Nice setup. Do you have any other picks/tips of your gear storage in the canoe. I'm starting to retrofit one now...

Great Job! My brother lives in Salem County, NJ and pulls some absolute slobs out of the marshes there.
