Maybe this is a dumb question but has anyone ever picked up on anyway to tell if a doe is hot or not? Anything different with her behavior or anything? I ask because I just had a 2.5yr old and a doe at 60 yds for 2 hrs. And it seemed like rather than just running rampant like other doe ive seen get chased, she would go 10-15 ft and stop and stand there and wait, the buck sometimes would act like he was walking away and then she would turn and follow him. Just curious. If shes hot maybe I need to make a move closer but downpour here may slow bucks on her trail

Re: Hot doe question
I've read that doe that are ready to breed will have their tail sticking straight out to the side. Never witnessed it myself though.

Re: Hot doe question
A lot of the hot does I have seen did have the tail sticking straight back. Also some does will have dark/brown/black tarsals from peeing on them over scrapes.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

Re: Hot doe question
Pretty consistent for me to see tail out and kind of hunched up when being chased. Guess I never know for sure, but the ones I see with one or more bucks in tow, this seems to be pretty consistent. Seems to me, once they are locked up with a buck, look pretty normal.

Re: Hot doe question
Dark tarsals always get me ready! Also, can be good to shoot one and drag her to a shooting lane for that hunt! Or, kill her. Cut the tarsals off and soak in a milk jug filled with clean water. If you hunt soon dont freeze. If you are not for a while freeze. I then pour it from a gallon jug to a drinking water bottle (16 oz). When I hunt I take a bottle with me as I walk to a stand location. To use it simply unscrew the cap a tad-tip over and let it trickle out as you approach your destination. Best scent trick Ive ever heard or used.

Re: Hot doe question
Dark tarsal glands and a tail sticking straight back are what I have witnessed.

A bucks nose glued to her backside is a dead giveaway.....

Re: Hot doe question
If you have 6 bucks following one doe at the same time she's definitely hot!!!
Speaking from experience!
Actually the two hot does I saw yesterday didn't really seem to be acting much differently. The first one seemed like she didn't like the attention was trying to get away from them. The second doe was walking slowly and browsing with the bucks following her every move but staying back about 10 yards. She must not have been quite ready yet.
