scent-lok?

Unread postby jaymur53 » Wed Nov 05, 2014 12:10 pm

Just wanted to get some opinions on scent lok clothing. Is it the real deal or a gimmick? I really only need to throw it into the dryer every 30 hours of use? Not trying to get busted by not constantly scent free washing my stuff like I'm used to having to.

Ok - so way back in the late 90's I bought into this stuff. :snooty: Dang back then I spent $$ on this & other things that I thought would help me get a deer. I am not saying It does not work. Funny If I bike 2 miles in & walk after that & hang my set up anything would be junk. My last 3 bucks with bow hate to say but I didn't follow any books / magazines with scent control I followed DAN!!!!! I can say first hand I try & believe of trying to stay sent free it just does not happen. Most my Hunts I need to walk 45 minutes before my tree - then hang it. I would say save your money. I would also like to say over the years (90's 2005) spent $$ on camo - Buy warm quite & get something like Enigma - ASAT _ Predator on top

Gimmick. It takes thousands of degrees to 'recharge' carbon. Carbon liners do work, but only for a short period of time. I believe only 45 days of real time exposure and the carbon liner is rendered useless. The military issue JSLST suit kinda uses the same idea. Check it out. http://www.armystudyguide.com/content/a ... ight.shtml ...

It's not worth the money. Just play the wind and be downwind of where you think the deer will be so that they can't smell you. Even if you buy that expensive stuff I guarantee that you will still get busted at some point.

Over priced Chinese clothing. You can't beat the nose. Play the wind.

I was an avid user of scent blocker clothing and tried my best to stick to a full scent control routine which included showering, washing my clothes, spraying down every time out, etc. etc. Once I discovered Dan's methods I began to second guess what I had been doing. Long story short, I made the switch to no scent control at all, just playing the wind, this year and although I haven't shot a buck yet this year, I've seen and had just as many bucks, including a nice ten-point the other night that was downwind of me, and deer and general at close range this year.

I'll also add, I've recently been listening to some Wired to Hunt podcasts and noticed an interesting pattern. If you're not familiar with the podcast they basically interview big names in the whitetail world, including the Beast himself, like the Drurys, Lakoskys, etc. Even the Terry Drury and Lee Lakosky, both guys with big money sponsorships from scent control related products regularly mention playing the wind.

Now ask yourself, if all of those products worked so well, remember "forget the wind, just hunt", then why would these guys hunting some of the best managed properties in the world, bother paying any attention to the wind if the products actually worked.

Just my 2 cents...

It's a hoax IMO. Hunt the wind and plan you entrance route so that they don't smell your sent trail.

Scent-lok is perfectly fine. As long as you play the wind.
