Community Scrape?

Unread postby Bowhunter74201 » Tue Nov 04, 2014 6:01 am

i believe i found a community scrape yesterday. i was still-hunting with my muzzleloader since it was so windy. i stalked my way to a small point in a pond/swamp to check for bedding but found none. coming off the point, i found a path through the tall swamp grass so i followed it. it went into a small ditch then up into a beautiful open strip of hardwoods about 80 yards wide and maybe 175 yards long. it's sammiched between the pond/swamp to the north and a downward slope covered in real thick pines and hemlocks to the south. i found multiple scrapes in this area, probably about a 10 or so, most of which were on the side that was higher in elevation (it slopes a bit, one side toward the pond, the other toward the pine thicket). i found this area mid-day and wanted to sit there for the afternoon but had to leave since my ride had to go home. i plan on going back at some point this week when the wind direction is better.

here's what i think is the community scrape, a good 5'+ across with multiple licking braches. i happened to have a trail cam in my pack so i put it up. anxious to see what's in the area.

I believe that is a community scrape. That is what I have always considered to be one anyway.

I found a four foot scrape this year but today found this
Bush on the edge of a cow pasture that had 5 scrapes under it and in combination had a huge spot cleared out in the cow pasture

You should get good pictures. Had one last year on a 20 acre timer stand, private peoperty. It was in a funnel and it produced some great night time activity.

hope so, i'll find out this afternoon. the wind is right to hunt that area today. it's not an ideal entry/exit kinda spot. one way in, one way out. with a south wind, i can walk in there with the wind in my face, which is what we have today. i'm gonna go in around mid-day for a hang and hunt.

Did you check the pines/hemlocks for bedding?
