If does are bedding on the top 1\3 elevation, how far down the ridge do you set up?

During the day the thermal will pull the scent upward.
The amount of upward thermal will depend on how sunny it is and the compass direction that the slope faces.

I have had good luck climbing right up in the middle of the doe bedding, climbing high above the tunnel. Have had deer in every direction at once and have never been winded in that instance.

Curious how people respond to this. For me, I've had the best luck setting up down wind, some spots Im on the top of the ridge, sometime I'm on the bottom 1/3. Just as long as I'm downwind side I usually catch bucks cruising for does. Thats just me though, I'm sure more experienced beast hunters do it different.
I also push the envelope and get as close as I can to doe bedding, I mean close enough just to not spook them.

I get on either side of the bedding, or if the wind is parallel to the ridge on the downwind side.

Re: How do you set up down wind of doe bedding in hill count
This past Saturday I setup on the top 1/3 of a ridge with a SW wind blowing across my face from right to left. All the deer I encountered came in from my right with the wind parallel to their backs cruising the same countor line as their bedding area which was just below me about 20-30yrds. After evaluating my hunt, I should've been positioned downwind of their bedding area (with the wind going left to right) but I second guessed myself thinking about the thermals. Yup they busted me once they got just south of my position...lesson learned

I've hunted high and low in hill country and had good luck both ways. Most bucks will cruise low around the bottom of points right at daylight trying to cut a hot doe track during the morning. Once the sun pops up I like to be higher on the hill.
