It seems to me since about last year here in southern ohio we normally had a lot of north to north west winds most of fall and winter but since last winter they seem to always be a south to south west anymore. Has anyone else seen this in the area.

Re: Wind direction seems to being changing
The weather pattern lately has been bringing alot of warm air out of the south so far this fall for much of the country. I read earlier about a possible warm winter this year too due to El Nino.

As of now, 65% chance of an El nino winter.

Re: Wind direction seems to being changing
I am on wind patrol this time of year. I can't say I have noticed any more south winds than usual this year so far. Lots of west and North West but that is typical. I hope this is an El nino year. I'm still reeling from last winter. Fuel prices and a new furnace set me back some.

Re: Wind direction seems to being changing
Thermals,
I'm from southern Indiana so we probably get close to the same weather. I was always under the assumption that NW was our predominant wind during hunting season. I started paying a lot more attention 7-8 years ago and would only hunt certain stands based on wind direction. I was surprised at how often I had to hunt south wind stands. So this past winter I got with a local meteorologist and he showed me where to get historical hourly wind data for our area. I loaded the last 5 years into a database and it really showed just how dominant southerly winds are for this area. Below is the % the wind was coming from that direction during daylight hours for the last 5 years. In November we have southerly winds over 52% of the time! And S and SW top the list for every month.
