Rut Vacation Selection

Unread postby BJE80 » Wed Oct 22, 2014 3:01 am

When are you taking your vacation to hunt the rut?

I am watching the weather right now before I put in for my vacation. Pretty much I have a choice between Nov 1-9 or Nov 5-12. I get more time in the woods with two weekends with the Nov 1-9 but I think Nov 5-12 might be closer to the peak of the rut but less total time. Suggestions? What are you doing?

I see some people have a nice gig with work and time off during the rut.

If you were me would you take Nov1-9 or Nov 5-12?

Where you live? Do you have a buck dialed in or are you banking on cruisers?

I would go Nov 1-9 I think the weather will cool after this coming weekend (not sure where you are located, however). I love November 5-7, that always seems to be really good in my experience.

Plus all else being equal, there will be more bucks alive Nov. 1-9, right? Car crashes, bow kills etc.

Good luck

Wausau/Antigo Area in Wisconsin. A good amount of does on my land. No bucks targeted since they spend all their time on the neighbors land until the rut hits so this time is my only chance to kill a big buck on my land.

Last year it was very sporadic early (Nov1-3). Didn’t see any Bucks for the first three days and then Nov 4-7 was good. I had to leave on Nov 8th. Trail cameras showed activity good all the way through gun season with the peak being about Nov 7th. I only have a 1 year sampling period so who knows.

I just got let go from my job a couple weeks ago and although it sucks not to be working right now, the plus is that I now have all this time to hunt.

I'd go early based on your location.
