Do deer feed on muck crops?

Unread postby mike_mc » Fri Oct 10, 2014 6:22 am

I was hoping you guys could educate me a little about mucks crops. How does deer feeding on muck crops compare to corn, alfalfa and soybeans? Are some type of muck crops preferred over other type of muck crops?

Yes the do. They shoot a lot of deer off Muck farms up in Oconto County. From what I understand about it, it's usually only after 1st frost for the carrots and after the first full freeze for the potatoes and Sugar beets and such.

I'm only going by what I was told, so I don't know how accurate the information is.

I should say a lot of muck farms only grow 1 certain type of vegetable, so if it's all onions I don't know if they would eat those. The farm I know of in Oconto County has a field for potatoes, one for carrots and one for beets.
But they can grow basically any vegetable in the "muck" but very labor intensive, so some will only do 1 specific crop. So if it's not the right crop maybe they won't?
