Range finder seems like it becomes more and more important for me every year. As I get older my eyes seem to get worse at judging yardage. When I get set up I range trees or whatever landmarks are in the likely path I expect to see a deer so I can plan a shot when presented.

Then again thinking back over the years a great majority of my deer were killed under 15 yards with a bunch under 10 yards. Maybe I can do without.

Depends on terrain, open areas or places with elevation change I am not confident in my guessing. Thick areas, don't need it…

Rangefinders are so small and they can go right on the belt in their own case, too easy to carry for me to give it up.

Maybe not this year but I think if you set your tree in the spring when you find te bed you could check the trail then and mark it in some notes maybe.

I use one. I guess i really don't need it for my private because i pretty much have the yardages memorized but i still bring it with and check various landmarks as soon as i get set up. It helps the most on public. It's small so adding it to the pack isn't that big of a problem.

I bring it but most of my sits are in so thick of cover I don't need it. Once in a while I will have a little gap that I can get a longer shot off so I always bring it

If you see a buck in the distance ranging it can help you pin point the position later on an aerial...this does work.

I absolutely take and use one. Most of the time, I range objects as soon as I am setup. Rangefinder has really helped me on a couple kills in the past. Wouldve for certain guessed range wrong.
