Went out tonight and beds were empty

Unread postby Thermals » Wed Oct 01, 2014 3:10 pm

I did a still hunt over to some beds I found on a point last spring, I think I down very well in moving very slow and making almost zero noise. When I got within about 100 yards of the beds I herd a crunch to my left and it was three does one real big one, they never did figure me out then they may have got some wind of me they hung around then the big doe blew and took off then came right back and a few later they all just walke away. So I am not sure if they scared out the bucks from the beds or they just were not there. I ended up goin to just check the beds and they look like they have been used but not much. So far my bed finding is not paying out yet, I have more places yet will see how it goes.

Par for the course, unfortunately.

I still-hunted up to a bed I found during last season that was red hot, only to find the bed has all but disappeared with no sign of deer activity.

I will try to check this bed again in Dec which is when I found the bed active last year. If one moves back in I will know when to hunt it next year...

Some areas bucks are just now leaving summer ranges / bachelor groups and will start showing up in beds used last fall / winter.

Had some really nice ones leave on me last week.

I try to think of every hunt as an experience rather than killing a buck. Enough of those experiences add up to a buck on the meat pole. Sometimes it's the first day out, sometimes the last day out. You just never know.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

Stanley
Thanks for the kind words, I figure I would not be getting a buck they way I was hunting before the beast. And I figure I just makes my practice sneaking in an setting up.

The difficulty level for killing a buck IN his bed with a bow by sneaking up on him.....is extreme.....
