Do you get 4 mass measurements per side on an 8 pointer, and if so, where do you take the last measurement? Is it half way between the 3rd point and end of the beam?

I believe you only get three on a 8 pt.

Glad I was wrong on this and learned something new today. Have a 8 pt here that just went from 120's to low 130's now. :o 8-)

^

When scored for real it is the smallest mass measurements in between tines done with a thin wire for no stretch. So a lot of bucks I measure tend to "shrink" compared to last guy that scored the buck.

Where in the heck did I ever say 5" of mass? :?

This was my Dad's last buck and it scored just under 130" according to my measurements. Here is the thread on that buck. viewtopic.php?f=26&t=23563&p=300250

I learned today that I forgot the H-4 score so it bumps the buck into the 130's. No big deal just excited to learn that!

If you buy the tape measure with the ring end from B&C or P&Y, it is super easy to get a accurate measurement.

Every buck I ever measured always comes up a little higher when they officially score them. Guess that's a good problem to have.

Its the opposite of what I deal with. Every buck I officially score always ends up lower than what the owner got.

The worst part is how some people react. I always tell them the score doesn't make the deer, and I sincerely believe that.

Get it from P&Y, it's cheaper and I believe shipping is free.

I read it first as low 120s bumped to low 130s. My bad, I was seriously just excited to see a buck that heavy all they way out. On this board nothing would surprise me!

BigHunt buck from last yr might have 4-5" mass all the way out on the ends... but not an 8pt.

I was picturing that big one that got poached a few years back up in Ontario.
