New Way of hunting= pope and young sighting

Unread postby bulldawgfan007 » Thu Sep 25, 2014 7:49 am

After learning so much on this website I scouted a little differently this time. A month and a half ago I focused my scouting on a transitional line alone a river bottom and found good tracks. I set up along these tracks and hunted it for the first time Saturday night. About 6:15 that evening in the stand a young eight point appeared following the edge of the bottom. Unfortunately he walked right under my stand and hung out for a good five minutes. While watching him, I caught more movement to my left which was a doe. as the doe got closer I realized this "doe" had antlers and was really a pope and young ten point. This deer also walked directly towards the area under my stand. While I should have waited for the ten point to pass before moving at all, I merely shifted my weight just enough to face the ten point more and the eight point spooked and ran off. The ten point then knew something was off and began walking away. I chose a window to aim my bow and held until I saw his shoulder in that window and let the arrow fly..... and hit a limb in the process. BUT even with no hit I learned more in this one hunt than i have in all of my years of hunting. Thanks for the knowledge gained on this website and I look forward to gaining more.

Cool.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

Cool, I hope some of the things I have learned here in the off season pay off during the season. Only time will tell but it sounds like it is paying off for you.
