Interesting experience in the woods last night.
Sat until 9am in the suburbs of Connecticut yesterday morning, three days earlier my friend shot a nice 110" 8 and saw 7 different bucks including one in the 130-140 range.
Anyway, in the morning I saw one coyote. Found out my buddy saw 7 and shot at, but missed one.
Got back in for the evening hunt at about 3:30 and after 10 minutes in the stand hear what sounded like 10 yotes, tearing into something (probably the black cat the was hanging out in there). Needless to say it was a bloodcurdling song.
About an hour before dark I hear a dog barking right behind me at about 50 yards. I figure someones dog was running loose or something. This is when it gets weird..... I turn around and right there at 50 yards is a coyote, not howling or yapping, but barking like a German Shepard directly in the face of a big doe....and I mean right in her face.... probably 18 inches away!! this lasted about 10 seconds and the doe just casually walks right by the coyote like nothing ever happened!!
Anybody ever see anything like this? or heard a yote bark like a dog? I found it pretty funny and it brightened up the day since I really hadent seen much activity.

I never heard anything like that, but it sounds like you had a interesting hunt to say the least!

I had a yote wake me up one night, they usually cross in front of the house, it must have winded my dog and freaked out. Non stop barking until I chased it off with my shotgun.

I have heard both yotes and wolves bark. I think its quite common. I have never seen a deer put up with a yote being that close. I would assume it was not scared because it was one yote and it could protect itself against one by kicking.

I hear yotes bark alot, the other night there was a pack just barking no howling at all.....never seen one bark at a deer that close though. Here's something interesting while in New Mexico antelope hunting.....We had been watching a group of 5 does and a buck about 400 yards away, when all of a sudden another group of goats appeared over the rise, there was something moving in front of them. It was a coyote that appeared to have a hurt leg, the antelope were actually pushing it ahead of them. They chased/pushed this coyote for almost 300 yards before they lost interest and moved off. I guess it was payback for all the fawns that yote probably tried to take down earlier in the spring.

Yea it was unreal. The doe didn't even run, she just casually walked by him.
Do coyotes generally take down adult deer? I was thinking just the fawns.

I think yotes will take down an adult deer if they have some help from a couple other yotes. Like Dan mentioned 1 yote would just get kicked to death by an adult deer.
