Thought i was ready

Unread postby cbay » Tue Sep 16, 2014 11:20 am

Until i test fired the arrow i would have nocked on the stand!!
Amazing how much noise a half glued blazer makes through the air. :o It wouldn't have worked out very well.
Everything looked good and my practice arrow / tip sat outside all year with no issues. And my hunting arrows were stored away in the bow case and in good shape...i thought.
Something told me i better fly the arrow i was planning on killing a buck with. No matter how solid you think your gear is....expect the unexpected.
Just thought i would share in case anyone else needs to double check their most vital tool. CHECK YOUR HUNTING ARROWS

Good idea to check everything.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

I did the same thing the other day. Always good to double check.

I take all arrows I quiver and shoot them before season. I only shoot 2 arrows at a time so I just swap the heads out to make sure they are good. Once they fly true I go back to my practice shafts.

Good job. Best to check everything now versus in the heat of the moment missing or even worse injuring the animal!

I use the same arrows I shoot all summer long for target shooting and 3D tournaments. That way I know they are flying true with no issues.

I'm glad it didn't cost the BIG one. My tip is draw your bow on stand and check your sight picture. Did water freeze in your peep or branch snag your pins?
You don't have to be the best, just do your best.

New arrows doesn't mean good arrows. I always put practice heads on and shoot with them until I find a couple that I like best.
