Preferred Fall Food Sources
I'm curious to hear what beast members have found to be a deer's preferred food source in early-mid October after the bucks have left their summer feed patterns and the green in the woods begins to die off. I'd like to hear if others have had the same experiences as I have. I've found most of the deer go from bean or alfalfa fields to corn fields or acorns and although I may not hunt these fields it gives me an idea of where a buck may be bedding based on their preferred food source. What have others found?

Deer love the white oaks here in southeast MO. Field edge trail cameras don't pick up much at all once the acorns start to fall

In my area, I have found that they key in on hickory nuts in mid October during daylight hours. I believe this gives them a snack without having to travel far from their bed.

White oak acorns. If There are any in the areas I hunt, I tend to drift towards them.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

I voted acorns and apples acorns are for sure the preferred food source for me with apples and corn a close second I've noticed corn really starts to pick up around late October into November then corn and soybeans have all dried out and the deer hit those fields pretty hard in late November early december

I drove 180 miles last Tuesday from 5:30 to dark, I didn't see a single deer, beans leaves are starting to yellow. Took a walk this weekend and whites and reds are starting to drop, makes sense now.

Mid-October preferred would be persimmon, apples, pear, poke, clovers, fallen maple leaves, anything soft and sweet...primary would be acorns. There stomachs are just starting the transition from soft mast at that point here.
