Re: bow or gun opening day?
For me definitely BOW! I used to enjoy gun season opener a lot, but that was because as i aged, my dad, stopped bow hunting and did just the gun, so it was time spent with him. Honestly, gun season now, I could take it or leave it.
Just waiting patiently for my 6 and 4 year old, to become regulars at deer camp :)

Re: bow or gun opening day?
I get way more excited about bowhunting. Just to give you an example of how excited I get...........last night I didn't sleep a wink because I laid in bed wide awake plotting the next three days and where I plan to hunt. Just got to work and it should be an interesting night with no sleep especially if I end up working a 12 hr shift.

Bow, no comparison. It's been over 40 years since I killed a deer with a gun.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

Wow! Had it been 40 years since you carried a gun with the intent to kill a deer?

Re: bow or gun opening day?
Definitely bow season for me. In my opinion bow season is a lot more challenging and who doesn't like a challenge?

Re: bow or gun opening day?
It all depends on what you mean by opening day. Since making it out on opening day of bow season is tough and the weather is usually a little too warm for me, I don't look forward to the opening day of bow season. I do look forward to the first day I can actually get out and bow hunt though, that I am always really excited for....even more excited for that first cool day in late October.
While it's not popular on here, I really look forward to the opening day of gun season. The night before we are getting ready, talking about hunting, where we are going to hunt, going over maps, revisiting trail cam photos for the year. Its just a special time. The next morning as I settle in the stand, I just sit giddy in anticipation. It's the one day I can sit there and think of thousands upon thousands of hunters in a tree all excited with anticipation. When I hear that first shot ring out, I always smile. It brings me back to my childhood and sitting in the deer blind for the first time.
I'd much rather shoot a mature buck with a bow and spend much more time planning to my bow hunting, its just something about gun season I love. If I can kill a mature buck, then thats a bonus but everything that goes along with friendship and fun is seen during gun season.

Re: bow or gun opening day?
Bow hands down. I wish they would take the rifle season away here in Missouri and maybe do a shotgun season but shorter. Biggest problem here in the southern part of the state is the bucks get shot before they ever reach maturity. I see guys with fork horns and basket racks hanging out of their trucks just riding through town like they killed a 180. To each their own but would love to see more deer reach maturity

Bow for me. Have not gun hunted in almost 20 years.
I'm reason they call it hunting and not shooting.

Re: bow or gun opening day?
As a kid there was a lot of tradition about opening day of the gun hunt... But the last 15 years I have been more excited about the bow opener

I much prefer my bow in every way possible but its hard to beat hunting with family and friends with gun, even more so with my boy along for the hunt.

Both are awesome but I lean towards gun. The family and town tradition are great memories.
