Pickled deer heart?
Does anyone try pickled deer heart? I can't get myself to try it, but we have several in our hunting group that can't get enough of that stuff.... Anyone?

I ate that stuff like it was going out of style when i was a kid. All my old Swede uncles canned it. They made all kinds of stuff like that, head cheese and all that peculiar looking stuff. they would put everything on a cracker and hand it to you and said eat it and you did. No questioned asked. It was beer drinking food.

Made it last year for the first time. To be honest, I ate it because I made it, but really didn't like it much. Won't do it again.

Re: Pickled deer heart?
Have a had it at a few different camps in northern WI. One them tasted horrible and it took nearly 2 beers to get the taste out of my mouth. The others were awesome. The only problem I had was that I usually ate pickled eggs along with the pickeled heart which made for a long, noisy, stinky night at camp! Made correctly, it is delicious.

It's not bad, I personally prefer it fried.

1/4 inch slices fried in butter and some black pepper is the way I go.

I haven't had it pickled but like it sliced and than lightly pan fried with onions.
