I have a question for the beast for today

Unread postby Thermals » Thu Sep 11, 2014 3:37 am

Ok beast I have a nice buck I been watching behind the house and I have him coming out of this one spot everytime with a north to north west and north east wind but I har not scouted this spot so the bedding spot is unknown yet. My equation is do I keep watching and trying to figure him out or this afternoon we are going to get very heavy rain were I think I could go in and find that bed, we have a south wind now so I don't think he is on there. Thoughts, questions, are welcome you won't hurty feelings

If you have him patterned during the daylight and know his routine , I'm not sure if knowing where his bed matters at this point . Kill him !!

If he is coming out in shooting light then I would set up your ambush spot in a place that you can get in/out of without him being aware of you....maybe a good ground hide.

Knowing the exact bed spot is good for hunting the bed, but if you can ambush at another spot then why push him off the bed?

In Wisconsin we have rain in much of the state forecasted the next two days leading up to this weekends opener. If it were me, I'd wager on Friday rain, if you're in Wisconsin, and go in to find the bed. If you find it, you know right where to sneak into and get into a tree on Saturday evening. My $0.02

The beans are yellowing here heavy right now. In another week lots of beans will brown. I think you are in a catch 22 If you go in and he is using a bed you won't know that until you jump him. So now what? You have him patterned for now but that will more than likely change.

I pattern a lot of bucks early and more often then not, that pattern changes before season opens. But I can do some scouting in the spring and maybe figure out what is happening and why.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

Are season doesn't open till the end of the month.
Stanly you are right on if I blow him out it is over, but I never seen him come out of there with a south wind, but that is not to say he is there. What I I take my dog with me and let go in first just a thought at the same time I don't want to mess it up.

I don't want anyone to know I am in there. There is low income apartments next door and I forsee problems at night doing that. Here is my other thought I was going to do. Hunt him off of what I no then when the rut is in full go on and find that bed and hope he comes back after the rut

Depending on the pressure you perceive in that area. You could always try an early season bump and dump. You said there is low income apartments near by, he might be used to getting bumped by kids playing in the woods, people walking their dogs or visiting their meth lab. :o

Very true, just wait till the buck gets a high then move in lol, I would say unless someone is coming there is no pressure on these deer.
