Drying Out Milkweed
Thanks to Terry for sending me a bunch of Milkweed Pods.
They are currently in a zip lock bag on my dash of my truck. Seems like the bag is getting moist at the end of the day with water beeding in the zip locks.. Like the pods are developing condensation. Should I take them out of the Ziplock? How long does it take to dry? Any drying tips? How long wil each pod last me come hunting season?

Just crack the bag open a bit. They will dry good.

Don't put them in a ziplock till they are dry unless you leave the bag open. I lay mine out on the deck in the sun so they dry completely and just start to open, then put them in a paper bag to draw any extra moisture out.

Re: Drying Out Milkweed
I prefer them to dry out on the counter than I put them in a frost-free freezer. I'm still working off pods from 2012!

Re: Drying Out Milkweed
I put them in an onion bag and hang it in the garage or pole barn to dry. This works great for keeping pods from one year to the next as well.

I put them on my truck dash not in a bag. Just keep an eye on them so the seeds don't release in your car.

Re: Drying Out Milkweed
I have had good luck putting them in a paper bag on my dash. They seem to breath well and dry fast. If yours are condensating, then I would get them out of the plastic and put them somewhere they can breath for the first few days.

Re: Drying Out Milkweed
Here is what I did....
I took the pods and slit them open so they could breath. I then took a cardboard box, and cut a bunch of little slits in it, so it could breath....
I then put the pods in the cardboard box.... I took a fan and just blew it at the box for a couple days... it pretty much dried them all out, and I was ready to bag them up or where ever you want to store them...

Re: Drying Out Milkweed
Crack them open and strip off the seeds, then place the wet fluff in a closed paper bag for a week or two and you should be good.

There's so many around there that I can harvest them dry...But when I go into the woods when everything's wet,the pods in my pocket get wet too....
I have learned MULtIPLE TIMES to watch those pods on my dash. Got the heater and defroster on and suddenly the inside of the truck is full of milkweed floating around.
Oops.
