What can pull a deer into two pieces?
One of my friends, who is a farmer, was telling me something over the weekend.... He was mowing hay this last week, and he said I could see something down the hill a ways, and as he got closer to it, he noticed it was a deer...
He got out of the tractor, and walked down to it. It was in two seperate pieces and seemed pretty fresh, maybe a day old... When I say two pieces, I mean two halves seperated, even the spine was completely cut into two pieces....
I asked him if he looked around for tracks..... he said no, he just pulled the two pieces out of the way so he could continue on mowing hay....
As we talked about it, we both agreed that we didn't think coyotes could rip a spine or even chew one into two pieces over one day....
So we are thinking maybe a mountain lion, wolves....... what do you guys think? A bobcat couldn't do that, could they? I wish he would have taken pictures, but he did not.....

I've seen a captive wolf carry and eat a road kill adult doe, incredibly powerful animals. Or a poacher with a 50 BMG.

Re: What can pull a deer into two pieces?
I would be curious as to what killed the deer in the first place, a poachers bullet or a wild animal?
A wolf could crush the spine with ease, as they can crush the skull of a bull moose with their indredible jaw pressure.
I'm sure a big cat could pull a deer in two...
It would be unusual for a black bear to be able to kill an adult deer (be able to catch it) but separating a deer by severing its spinal cord is incredibly easy for them. An adult black bear can run off with a mature buck like a dog with a bone and will if given the opportunity. They are incredibly powerful when compared to a human. I believe bears take advantage of opportunities created by hunters more than people would think.

Not sure on this one. Yotes don't normally tear a carcass in half.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

Bigfoots are pretty territorial. If the buck had entered his domain he may have ripped him in half as a sign of dominance

I don't see coyote doing that. And not bear or mountain lion either since they are lone hunters. I would guess a pair of wolves competing for prime meat??

Re: What can pull a deer into two pieces?
Any heavy truck activity on nearby roads? It wouldn't explain how the two halves made it into the hay field, but I've seen a couple hit by log trucks traveling at speed and the deer ended up in 2 pieces.
