I have hunted this area the past few years. I just took up hunting at age 48 and I am frustrated with my selection of places to hunt. I have tried close to the road and only saw deer in the darkness as they cross the road to go to lake Huron. I hunted way back into the swam where I swear I could hear a deer shake his fur like a dog, but I never saw him. The area is a mix of cedars and low thick swamp brush. I posted a pic back a while ago of the area I have access to and I just can't figure out a strategy anyone have any ideas?

That picture is not to helpful... It would need to be zoomed in a bit.

how do I post a zoomed in pic? what is a good site to use for this? I am not worried about letting people know about the spot. not much traffic there for public land.

I would check out these spots:
Try stalking the spots one night, sit and wait for the evening hunt and then come back to look for sign for a morning hunt
try this mapping website, it is really handy if you play around with the settings, many different maps to view:

Thanks for the input. the only problem is that where you marked is private land. I can only hunt from the railroad and east to the lake. Kinda sucks.

That could be a good thing though because the private land could hold some bucks that are out of reach to other hunters. You could focus on finding out where the does are bedding on your public land and find a spot for the rut by relating where those buck bedding areas and doe bedding areas are.
Are the railroad tracks out of service? Are there any bridges or large culverts under the railroad tracks that the deer might use as to cross the rrailroad and stay out of sight? I work on railroad bridges and I always see deer tracks under rr bridges traveling perpendicular to the rr tracks.
also might want to find some different areas to hunt early season

Re: really need help hunting state land swamp area.
The tracks are in service and no culverts. The only bedding area that I have found is on the east side next to the lake in an area with tall grass and patchy thickets. That area HAS A LOT OF PRESSURE DURING THE RUT, i TRY TO STAY DEEP IN NEXT TO THE TRACKS BUT GETTING THE DARN DEER OUT IS A DRAG! ( A long one at that.)
I wanted to set up near a bed but There is only about thirty yards of trees between the lake and the beds and nowhere else to set up unless I use a pop up.

I find deer to be attracted to edges. I would look along the steep slope "700" where the hill meets the swamp. There may be a pinch point there with some well used trails. Deer follow the terrain and path of least resistance. A steep incline next to water should be a good funnel.
