Like others have said, the scoring system is relevant for "ranking" deer, but in no way is perfect system. You could try to fix the flaws, but there would always be areas that needed to be addressed. Compare a 140" Florida deer and a 142" Iowa buck. Clearly the Iowa buck scores more and more than likely has a much bigger body, but which is actually more impressive?
You can also never substantiate factors such as difficulty of the hunt, public vs private, total work put in, hours in the stand, deer pressure, history with the buck, ect. I consider many of these factors just as important as the score itself. Score is a good tool to measure part of a successful hunt, but the true score to me involves more internal factors as well.
