I would shoot. Age makes the deer IMHO, not score.

shoot - a big buck is a big buck in my book, no matter what it has for horns

Have and will always pass . Even though I hunt as much for the meat and enjoyment as I do for the rack , that's gona be some tough meat so I'd need both sides of the rack to make it worthwhile .

Re: Shoot or pass ? (poll)
This is my answer - this deer was a 5 year old buck I had been following for the last 3 seasons in a fairly heavy pressure area. It was the first time I laid eyes on him in daylight, a high risk hunt that paid off. I don't regret releasing the arrow a bit!
Interestingly if I had no history with the deer I might have passed him in a different situation, for me that made all the difference. I have passed other half racks. Everybody is different, its an entirely personal choice.

Re: Shoot or pass ? (poll)
I can kill all the does I want for meat. Although there's nothing like a good buck neck roast, I am primarily shooting bucks as a trophy. A trophy, in my book, is a mature animal which has achieved his optimal level of body and antler growth. Half a rack is not optimal...not even close. It'd be like shooting a 2.5 year old versus a 5.5 year old; you are consciously taking a buck that's not at his full potential. I just don't get it. But to each his own; I respect everyone's opinion.

I would have to pass on him too.
I'm reason they call it hunting and not shooting.

Re: Shoot or pass ? (poll)
His one antler would score more than 50 percent of the bucks I see in a year, I wouldn't hesitate to shoot him. I am lucky to see a deer close to that size every 5 or 6 years.
