What exactly is the purpose of a licking branch in a deer's world?

Physiologically what communication is the deer trying to communicate, dominance?

When does the behavior occur?

How do I hunt it , if I should?

What are the best tactics to do when trying to duplicate the behavior, licking branch?

I think I heard they (bucks) scrap below the broken branch too?

Let me know thoughts, etc....
