Re: Alright guys, settle an argument for me.
I have observed urban bucks turn inside out when they smell human scent where it shouldn't be in in small woodlots and such. I work on a lot of construction projects in populated areas like that, deer might ignore human scent when its coming from back yards but they react just like you would think when its where it shouldn't be.
There are a lot of ways to get antlers on the wall, don't necessarily mean the hunter in question knows what he is talking about.

I agree, I think people succeed in spite of what they are doing sometimes, not because of it.

Pass on the sweatshirt idea, surprise attack all the way.
My big question is there any other way to setup on him? You might not get a north wind during early season and the buck could have changed patterns by then. Heck he might not even be on the same pattern by the time the season arrives, might be a good idea to have a backup plan or two.
You may not want to post an aerial but it might be fun to put one up and show us your plan and maybe a few members here could post some different setup ideas. I've shot deer out of certain sets that I don't think I would use again because I feel my odds are better using a different tree under different circumstances.

Re: Alright guys, settle an argument for me.
Blue line is dried up creek bed, Orange cirlcle and the end is where i beleive he is bedding.
White lines from the bedding are his travel routes that I have determined.
green outline is food plot, red dots are current stand sites
yellow "x" is doe bedding and yellow dotted line is how they sometime approach plot.
Black outline in field is now a corn plot.
pink outline is in corner is not our property.
Always open to new ways of trying to get him, lemme know what you think.
Thanks
Cody

If you get pretty regular north wind I would just wait for the correct wind and get him that day. If he is in urban area and the plot is walked a decent amount, he is much more use to scent than a buck in a very urban area. I've learned that urban bucks know where human scent is acceptable and where it is unacceptable. I've seen some monster bucks hanging out within 15 feet of a playground. They know human scent is not a threat there. Go 100 yards away where people don't typically go and its a whole new ball game.

Stealth is the key.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

Re: Alright guys, settle an argument for me.
I would moniter him with a trail cam at the food plot, preferably an email one. When he is present on a regular basis I would move in for the kill... Probably not at the food plot it self though, mainly cause where your stands are I would expect nocturnal activity. I would kill him much closer to his bedding area.

No reason not to hunt him with a west or east wind either, just setup downwind of the trail and make sure your scent is blowing off your property. You could even hunt him with a south wind if you setup near the corner of the trail next to the creek bed. As Stan mentioned stealth is key, go slow, get there early and make no noise.

Thanks for the input guys, I suppose I should have mentioned that woods is just barely 4.5 acres, where the plot is now is 70 yards from his bed, does that change anything as far as trying to sneak in closer?

That depends on if he will walk into that food plot in daylight.

surprisingly enough, I have more daylight shots of him than night, I've even had him walk out into the small corn plot to the south in broad daylight.
