My rubbing post & Licking branch project
Well, as some of you might remember, I made these 4x4 rubbing post / rope licking branch a few months ago. Yesterday I went to the woods to put up one last hang on stand, so I grabbed the card out of this camera while I was there....
I got this buck checking out the rope, smelling it...... So there is some interest there, hopefully when the horns turn hard, they use the rubbing post..... Thanks for the tips Mike.

Very cool. Is there a specific kind of rope you used? I read an article about it in a hunting mag and thought thry discussed a specific rope.

I know some have used Manila rope, but honestly, I just went down to my local hardware store and found some of this 1" rope, and I don't believe it said anything about being Manila rope... It's pretty early to tell, but at least there does seem to be some interest in them... Hoping for some real good results when they start rubbing and scraping, but I'm not going to hold my breath...

I have a total of 4 of them out, with camera's on 3 of them. I did put the cam's up about 9 or 10 feet in a tree, hoping they don't spot them. All the places I put the post, are good spots for buck routs anyway, so I'm hoping they stop to check them out on their way through, as I have hang on's close to all of them...

Looks good! The only thing to maybe try would be to get the vegetation lower and open up a scrape under the rope. The more it stands out the better, but cool weather will knock that veg down.
Looking forward to the pics

Cool.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

This should be great to follow along.
Thanks for the effort.
Was any thought put into using a real tree trunk, like a young maple? Bucks here love to tear up maples.

Yes, I thought about using real tree's also, as I'm sure it would work good, but I was looking for an idea in that the rubbing post would last many years, & it just seems like the bucks love rubbing on cedars around where I hunt, but there is not much of any cedar's on my land.
I also rubbed in some Texas cedar oil into the main rubbing spot on the post, as Mike said this seems to draw them in the first year.

ya, I actually had a pretty good mock scrape under the rope, but it really grew back in with vegetation. Maybe I will clear out some of that vegetation, but then again, I really don't want to go back there until I hunt it.... I probably will just let it be for this year, and yes, once it cools down, all that stuff will be gone...

Re: My rubbing post & Licking branch project
Gotcha yes I have had that happen. Now I put a little ground clear on there and it's good to go for the year.
