Who has Used a Step Ladder with success ?
Saw a few threads on here mention using a step ladder when No tree is available. Thinking about trying it this Fall. I noticed out in the middle of 2 different yet large cattail marsh's there's what appears to be higher ground with a sea of what I call Elephant Grass of Marsh Milo ?? stuffs taller than the cattails..... cattails are greening up now but this stuff is still brown yet. Gotta be buck beds out in that stuff ?/

I used one in a standing corn field a couple of times. I did not kill a buck though.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

I killed a buck in 2010 standing on a 2 foot step ladder. It was In a thick riverbottom without adequate trees. There was a brushy tree about 7 foot tall that I trimmed out the middle of, and stood inside that. I killed the first time sitting there, but since have been busted a few times and haven't really tried it since.

I love ladder stands. I killed my first bow buck with one a few yeas ago out of one on private land. I don't use one anymore since I hunt public ground now.

Yep. I injured my back a few years ago and during long all day sits it gets pretty stiff and I tend to get fidgety. Got caught moving because there wasnt adequate cover.

Re: Who has Used a Step Ladder with success ?
I have used step ladders quite a bit in the cattail marshs... They sink till the 1st step if its mucky, then lock in. I have not yet killed out of this set up, but have passed on enough to know it works. Out in the open cattails they will bust you quite often with no back cover, but if you can blend in with a bush or small tree it works awesome. I like to sit on the top. Standing on the top has sent me sailing into the marsh a time or two.

I wonder if wearing a light colored open pattern camo would help
Maybe even snow camo?

A video camera... I made a shock absorbing mount in the shop, so I could shoot with a barrel mounted camera. Thats old school. Now a-days you can use tiny cameras for that.
