"Going in Blind" video - Logistics and GPS Tricks
[bbvideo=425,350]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_pg17-CIXSU[/bbvideo]
Back when I first moved to Minnesota, I did a ton of "going in blind" hunts. Just about all of us on here know the benefits of spring scouting, but I tried to give realistic expectations and logistics of going in when you haven't had the time or opportunity to scout on foot. If you have a Garmin GPS, there's some nice tricks for it near the end. I show how you can add custom aerial and topo maps for free, and draw routes to follow. While I show adding those for hunting purposes, there's really no reason you couldn't do it with lake contour maps (like Navionics online maps). Not sure they'd approve of that lol , but you could do it.

Nice video! I don't personally use a Garmin but your ideas got me thinking about how I can try some of this with Back Country Navigator on my Phone. Thank you for sharing!

Ive heard from a couple guys that like that system. Thr GPS on my Samsung must not be as good as the iPhone because I struggle to get a good signal, especially in hills or with a thick canopy.

I've been side by side with a buddy who has a Oregon & my iphone picks up better than his gps. The huge downfall is battery life!!!!!

What app are you using for topos on the iphone? That's the down side to GPS Kit no good topo map options.

I've heard put your phone in airplane mode and it conserves battery.

Gottcha I use that one two. I really wish GPS Kit had a topo so I wouldn't have to switch back & forth.
I also use airplane mode while on stand to conserve battery, but scouting & to & from stand is where I really use up battery when the gps is on & tracking.
