Over the years of hunting, especially bow hunting. I go in an setup on a spot. I do not have the confidence to sit for long periods of time with out knowing if the area is active. If I'm in a good spot an my confidence is up on that spot. Its almost like a south bound freight train could not stop success. If need be I can set a while. I do not have to be seeing anything just have that feeling like everything is right for this spot. If it does not work out I'm surprised. Or I just think it is worth a try tomorrow.
Then sometimes go in on a spot an say well it's worth a try. I get settled in an the area just seems void of a deer. Like there may not be one around me for a great distance. It's like it is cut an dry either you feel like something is going to happen any minute or you would be better setting home eating a sandwich. Does any one else ever have that feeling?

Yeah, I've felt that too. Sometimes you pre - scout an area and then come back in the fall or rut and it doesn't seem thick enough etc...I usually move, did that a few times last year.

Re: Confidence in location.
You have to trust your instincts. If I sit in a spot I need to have high confidence that I have a very good chance of either seeing or killing a good buck that day. When I get that gut feeling to set up somewhere else history has proven that I need to listen to that. In the past I have been all set up and later moved and killed a good buck after I relocated. Been burned a few times as well when I didn't listen to myself and seen a big buck walk right past a tree that my instinct was telling me I needed to be in.
Confidence is everything and keeps you much more focussed while on stand.

Re: Confidence in location.
This one one was from 2009 in the river bottoms. This was a rather easy hunt. I left the camp an went an checked some trees that were dropping acorns the temp had dropped a good 25 degrees the day before. This was an still is one of my favorite places to hunt when the woods are quite. I eased into this location an there was fresh droppings an small rubs an some large tracks. The large tracks led down the edge of some water where they were picking up acorns. It was quite afternoon when I settled in the tree shortly after 12 noon. He showed at 4:30 that afternoon. That felt like one of those moments that everything was going to work.
I'm reason they call it hunting and not shooting.
