For as inexpensive and prevalent as Core Lokt is, they are impressive.
I've always used them for 30-06 and it's fantastic. It's popular for a reason.

I don't hunt WI deer, but I really like the 168GR Nosler or Hornady.

What makes you go with such a heavy bullet for deer other than beating up your shoulder. Just curious if there was a reason.

I have used these before and same results! BAM! might be a heavier than normal bullet but they do a great job.
Although now I use the 150 gr (I think?) core lokt and they do great

Great in brush, didn't notice the kick any worse than 150 grains.

What makes them good in brush? Slower speed so they don't expand too much for closer shots? Have you gotten enough expansion? How was entry and exit holes? Recover any bullets?

Re: 308 Winchester for Deer
They were slower with the round nose and heavier bullet. I never had any trouble with expansion, but I only hunted with it for 2 years or so. I think I got 3 or 4 deer with it and it did a good job, opened up but didn't destroy a lot of meat either. I prefer 150 in my 30-06 but when I used the .308 it did a good job.

Re: 308 Winchester for Deer
The reason I was asking all this is because I have some Federal Fusion that I was planning on using in .308 150 grain. Then I saw this thread on a gun sight and I am a little worried now.

My hunting ranges are typically 75 yards and less and for sure 125 yards or less all the time.
Just trying to make a decision on what to do.

Isn't the whole brush buster bullet is a total myth? There was a good article in D&DH a while back about it, but here is the thing they tested muzzloaders. If a 250 grain sabot can't bust brush all that well I don't think a 180 gain 308 will. I believe their test results showed that no muzzy bullet was a better brush buster than any other, everything can get deflected to a certain degree.
Also a big fan of the 308, been using one for years.

Yes, the brush buster thing is a myth as far as I'm concerned.
