Recently I did a review of cold bluing products and in that review I included corrosion resistance but used only BC Barricade. I stated that I intend to do a review of a variety of gun-centric rust inhibitors. Im amassing (my wife says hoarding) quite a stock pile of CLP products focusing on the “P” aspects. To that end I want to make sure I have a comprehensive list of products gun owners might use to stave off rust on their firearms so Im coming to you for suggestions of which products I should secure for this evaluation. Ive scrubbed the store shelves of Gander and Cabelas and Bass Pro and Farm and Fleet and Fleet Farm as well as online outlets for rust inhibitors that cant easily be found. Id like to do a side by side evaluation of about 15 or 20 products and want to know what everybody uses to keep your gun rust free. I figure that by the time I buy the most common 15 or so that would cover the lion’s share of what the average guy uses.
Im focusing on manufactured/commercial brands and wont be evaluating home brews or gunsmith “secret recipes”. So please list em up and tell me that no evaluation would be complete without including brand “X”. I plan to post this request in a few different areas on the forum to attract as many suggestions as possible because some guys are hunters an others are only target shooters or only waterfowl hunt but don’t deer hunt so if you see it multiple times you need only reply in one thread. Thanks for your help.

Re: Your go-to CLP Help wanted
I've always liked the standard military grade CLP. Works good. Stay away from Militec. That stuff is very gummy, if you know what I mean. Other than that, Rem oil in the green and yellow can is also another good cleaning solvent/lubricant. Us infantry guys usually had a little tube bottle of Rem oil during training as CLP is sometimes hard to come by.
Here is what Im talking about.

Re: Your go-to CLP Help wanted
Based on posts and PM’s here and on other sites where I made the same request, I begun to generate a list of the rust inhibitors that I will secure for this evaluation. The product list thus far is. In no particular order
G96 CLP
Eezox gun care
M-Pro 7
Gun Slick Gun Seal Rust preventative
Breakfree CLP
Frog Lube
Ballistol
Birchwood Casey Barricade
Rem oil (with Moistureguard)
Rem oil (regular)
Shooters Choice Rust Prevent
Strike Hold
Viking tactics Rand CLP
Hornady One Shot Gun Cleaner & Dry Lube
Clenzoil
WD-40 (blue and yellow can)
WD-40 specialist Corrosion inhibitor
Fluid Fill Rust and corrosion protection
MILTECH-1
Hoppe’s Lubricating oil (with weatherguard)
Hoppe’s MDL (Moisture Displacing Lubricant)
Hoppe’s Elite gun oil
3-In-One oil
Pennzoil synthetic oil
Im sure the list will grow. Additional suggestions welcomed
Time to break out the credit card. Based on web searches, the shipping on some of this stuff is nearly as high as the product itself. This may end up costing a small fortune but I will have a lifetime supply of gun care products when Im finished.

Re: Your go-to CLP Help wanted
I noticed you are using Breakfree CLP. They also make a LP product that almost nobody other than online retailers use. In my own tests the Breakfree LP has always come out a winner. It is much thicker than the CLP and holds longer. Id like to see that in your trial.

Re: Your go-to CLP Help wanted
Still waiting on the brown truck, FedX and the mailman to stop buy to deliver all the purchases but I think im about done buying gun care products for this evaluation. I’ll stop at 40 products. Here is the list. I’ll be at a gun show on Friday and unless there is a product there I don’t have on the list. I think I’ll get going on the evaluation.

Re: Your go-to CLP Help wanted
I think it should be mentioned and a lot of people don't know, dust is a corrosive attractant. This is why I don't use oils as a rust preventative any more. If your guns are in a gun safe most of those are dust tight. If your guns are in a rack on the wall dust will collect and dust holds moisture! Inside of a barrel doesn't collect dust like the outside of the barrel. This is why I like the dry type protectants. Oils also stain metals even like S/S over extended periods of time. I collect pocket knives and keeping them from corroding is Paramount.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.
