Part of why I wantd the pack is for also for scouting to free my hands for binocular use...which means I will carry water, food, saw, maybe rain jacket, and something to put sheds mushrooms in this spring. I figure it's then nice to hunt with a pack because it can always be woods ready instead of packing and UN packing my pockets all season, which led to a few sits with missing items ie gloves or knife or we ha...If anyone is not using their good pack I would be interested in it :-)...then in a few seasons when I realize less is more I will be on here selliing it to some yungbuck cutting his teeth ha
on the rest situation I see both camps as valid options, thanks for at least sharing what rests you use...noticed no one said quick tune 360 ha

.
If I remember right, you have to spray a whisker biscuit occasionally to keep it from freezing?
I have one for sale if anyone wants it.

You cannot invade mainland America. There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass.

Re: equipment upgrade
QAD HDX for me. I couldn't be happier. I had an older rip cord on my Drenalin and wasn't a huge fan of it. It was an older rest though so that was probably a factor.
For me, I prefer a backpack with a lot of pockets. I try and pick a pocket for everything and keep it in that pocket so I don't have a bag full a bunch of things bunched together. Once I learn the pockets for everything, anything I need I know right where it is. THe only thing that doesnt have a specific pocket is my water bottle, sandwich and a few other nik naks like a warmer hat and knife. I had a few other cheaper back packs but once I spent a few extra bucks and got a good one it was well worth it.

Re: equipment upgrade
QAD HDX for me for 5+ yrs. No issues
Id go with a badlands fanny pack... I like having my essentials organized and the little pack "hides" much better in the tree. I have the Eblerstock for 12hr hunts. Buck knife, tags, zips ties, compass, fire starter, bottle of water n Dt Dew, energy bar, balacava, gloves, mini drag rope, range finder, wicked saw, bow rope, mini hangers, bow EZ hang. All organized, same routine everytime I set... when it happens everything is similar in every set... no guessing!

Re: equipment upgrade
I carry less as possible on me only what I need, if it don't fit in my HSH then I don't need to bring it ! after all in this type of "bed" hunting you have to be alert on stand not shoving your face full of food and drinking all time making unnecessary movement and noise. the less things you have with you to distract you the better....during the rut I will bring a small pack with very small.
theres only one thing that kills me when on stand......being on the beast all the time, on my smart phone
as for rest I have a QAD

Re: equipment upgrade
Carrying a safety kit(lighter, matches, flint, compass, GPS) in case emergencies is a great idea...some things are brought just in case. Having some food and water also helps. Accidents happen and are unpredictable. Pack is a must for me.

Re: equipment upgrade
I've used the same fieldline pack from Walmart for 3 years and it has everything I could ever need. It'll hold bottles of water, mushrooms, food, clothes, anything and it only cost $20. I think maybe one clip has broken on it so far. And from the tension I put on those things any brand's clip would have broken.
I do think this year I'm just going to move to much smaller fanny pack. It'll always be woods ready with the bare essentials. Everything else will be attached to my stand, in my pockets or at home.

Re: equipment upgrade
If you still have the stock strings on your bow, I'd suggest getting new quality strings and then bare shaft tune it.
Any rest that maintains the exact same launching point time and time again will work great if you bare shaft tune. The idea is to get the arrow to leave the bow as perfectly straight as possible, resulting in better arrow flight.
That's the problem with the whisker biscuit in my opinion - after you shoot it enough, eventually, the arrow launch point will lower due to wear.

Re: equipment upgrade
I have the rip cord code red on both my bows and drag them through the cat tails every year. Never had a problem yet.
