electronic registration = the end of back tags in WI?
it has been projected that WI will be electronic registration come 2015 with a small trial of the system in 2014. is this a good indication that back tags will be gone since the current system is to take the tag off the deer at the registration station and fasten a metal tag to the animal?

I sure hope so! Eventually we will get rid of them........but there seems to still be a lot of support for the backtag.

I hate em. DNR will argue they have value for enforcing trespassing and other laws from a distance.

They started electronic tagging of deer here several years ago. All you have to do is call it in. You do have to note the time, date, sex, and county on your license, but that's it. Pretty simple. The one bad thing is hunters can kill a deer on private and call it in for a public land kill. Some areas public land deer are free tags. You can also call in a buck as a doe and keep hunting bucks. But I guess if you want to poach, you can find a way to beat the system whatever it is.

Electronic registration + end of back tags = much less headaches for hunters.
This should have changed years ago and time for WI to get with the times.

I never understood the reason for back tags. What's the point?

Re: electronic registration = the end of back tags in WI?
I thought I remember voting on this at the Conservation Congress Hearing last year……
QUESTION 73. Remove backtag requirements (from resolutions 570212, 500212, 660212, 200112, 670512,
680512, & 710212) (requires legislation)
Wisconsin is one of two or three states that still require bear and deer hunters to display backtags during the designated
hunting seasons. Some hunters site noise, the inconvenience of changing tag holders from garment to garment,
damage to clothing, and the possibility of facing a citation if the backtag falls off as reasons for removal of
Wisconsin’s backtag requirement for deer and bear hunting. Generally, landowners have supported the backtag
requirement as a means to identify trespassers.
73. Do you favor removing Wisconsin’s requirement of wearing a backtag
during the archery and gun deer and bear hunting seasons?
73. YES____ NO_____

We are not there yet
Only a trial in certain counties this year...
