Re: What has been your average shot distance with bow?
My average shot is about 20-25 yards. I have been more likely to blow a really short shot than a medium long shot in the past, its a concentration issue. My ideal distance would be 25 yards or so. The longest shot I've taken was 41 yards on a buck, I hit the kill zone but just barely.

20 yards. The hardwoods I hunt significantly limit the ability to reach beyond 20.

25-28 yards is my average, I prefer 22-26 though, that's where I'm most comfy. My shots are getting closer the better I'm getting and now I set up for 20-22 yard shots. My longest was 48 in the timber on a cruising buck, double lunged him but barely. Closest was 1 or 2 yards last fall, double lunged him as well but just barely.

I went through the past 10 years and I am coming up with an average of 17 yards with 25 being the furthest and 11 being the closest.

I like them in close. My average is probably under 15 yards. My longest successful shot is 22 yards. I have taken 2 shots at 30 yards, 1 was a clean miss over his back, the other was a meat shot with no recovery. In hindsight I should have passed on that second shot. I always try to set up for shots under 20 yards.

I shoot regularly and a lot of 3d and at all ranges and angles. We practice at 60-70yds a lot and can consistently hit 6 inch groups at that distance. Makes 50 and in look easier and groups smaller. With this being said I don't advise guys shoot this unless you've determined it to be your maximum effective range. My last 7 bucks were shot at 57yds, 18yds, 5yds, 17yds, 21yds, 51yds and 15yds.

I've killed over 40 deer all w/bow. And shot at many more I would say most shots are between 10-20 yards.
