United blood trackers

Unread postby 62kodiak » Mon Mar 10, 2014 1:48 pm

I went to the MN Deer Classic on Friday and listened to Larry Gohlke from UBT speak and it was really cool. Larry is a great guy to talk to. I really wish MN would open up the laws to allow tracking dogs. I know a buddy of mine lost a 150" 10 pointer about 7 years ago. We had seen the deer feeding in a neighboring field all summer when glassing and shining and he was lucky enough to connect. Being his first archery deer he shanked the shot and hit it in the guts. According to my GPS we tracked the deer a mile before we lost all the sign.

There was a representative from the MN deer hunters association at the seminar asking many questions and said that the MDHA has expressed great interest in legalizing tracking dogs. Maybe they will get it done in my lifetime but I am not going to hold my breath.

It's not the knowing that's difficult, but the doing.
