Antlered Fawn?

Unread postby Trailcamaddict » Mon Mar 10, 2014 7:48 am

About 10 years ago I was doing some in season scouting in early September on some family property in Wisconsin and busted out a spotted fawn from a raspberry patch. It was young and dumb so it jumped up and ran about 15 yards and stopped and looked back at me for a couple minutes. This is when I noticed that the fawn had a very small 4-pt rack (maybe 8 inches of antler).

I had never seen this before or since and wouldn't believe it if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes!

Have any of you ever seen this before?

That sounds weird and awesome. I have never seen anything like that. Must have been a hormone imbalance or something to get it to grow antlers its first year.
It's not the knowing that's difficult, but the doing.

I've seen early fawns w/ 3" spikes before...
He would likely loose his spots within a week or two.

We have seen them with 2"-5" spikes before. Dang people always shot them during gun season too.

Wow, that's incredible. The biggest antlers I have seen on a buck fawn are about 2" spikes, have seen that size a couple times is all....almost all are 1/2" long nubs or less from what I see.

That is what we see from time to time. My first deer with the bow was one. They weigh about 90-100 pounds dressed so they aren't fawns.

I have seen it one time, a group of 3 fawns, one button buck and two fork horns exactly as you described minus the spots. I was young and shot the button buck thinking it was a doe fawn, but they were all the same size (first bow kill). The button buck only field dressed 50 or 60 pounds. I have seen other button bucks that have just barely broken thru, but they are usually big for fawns.
