Same here. I also use them scouting to find odd currents and swirls.
I have a ton in big paper bags right now...Well,maybe a few lbs. not counting pods. I had hoped to pick them right as the were about to open and some would stay "almost" open until next year. Very few did.
Next year I'm going to try harvesting the almost-open ones and putting a small rubber band around them.
BTW,I can usually find a few good pods on my way into the woods right up to late November.
Also,anyone every dig a few wet pods out of wet pockets at the end of a rainy day and put them on the truck dash to dry?...Don't. Trust me on that. They dry halfway home and suddenly the truck interior is full of blowing floaties.
