balance beam ladder stand

Unread postby kurt » Sun Feb 23, 2014 4:45 pm

seen this sweet stand this fall. even as unsafe as it looks. I don't understand the thought of attaching the ladder to the tree 8ft away from platform and using the balance beam. Why not just lean ladder against platform? Keep things interesting I guess.

so you go up the ladder

walk across the beam

That's a nice place for the coons to crap on. Probably made by some young kids. I used to make some sweet contraptions like that back in the day.

That kind of looks like a stand on the land next to my buddies house. The neighbor guy has two ladder stands about 10ft apart with a 2X8 laid between them on the seats. When we asked the neighbor about it, he said it was so more than 2 people could go out. The other hunters slide out onto the board.

Reminds me of my youth. Standing on a limb or cross piece. Only being able to shoot one direction.

 I agree had to have been young kids. Anyone who is is ambitious enough to lash together all those sticks would be smart enough to use a real tree stand if they weren't a kid.

Well that's one way to keep guys from hunting your stand...

Keeps the riff-raff away :). I set some of my stands so it takes an acrobat to get in, the other guys avoid them.

I have seen a bunch of stands like that on state land in SE Minnesota...with the exception that there was no rope on those only some kind of treebranch/root used for twine. My buddies told me that the Hmong hunters make them.

I have walked up on Hmong hunters twice out on public land building stands like G3 is talking about. It must be something they do back in SE Asia. When their done they end up with something that almost looks like a giant bird nest. It's super weird but I guess different strokes for different folks.

The ones I see the Hmong make are a few sticks lashed together super high in a tree. Some I don't know how they even get up there.

This picture doesn't look like a Hmong stand but never know.
