Hill country bedding locations for light and variable winds

Unread postby JohnnieU » Sun Feb 02, 2014 4:29 am

I hunt a piece of property in western WI with a large, thick and relatively flat ridge top. My sighting and shot opportunities have greatly improved since I started hunting the leeward side of the ridge. However, several mornings each fall I will hunt the ridge with light and variable winds. On those days I observe the deer movement high on the ridge top and the deer are bedding in the thickets. Some days the wind will pickup and I will watch the deer relocate to the leewind side of the ridge at mid-day. However, on calm days with a full day of light and variable winds the activity stays on the ridge top and the bedding in the thickets. Has anyone else observed this pattern? Any suggestions for setups on days with light and variable winds?
