Shoot, sitting down or standing ?
When you guys are about to take a shot on a deer with your bow, do you shoot sitting down, or do you try to stand up without getting busted and let an arrow go that way ? I just sit, I feel comfortable shooting from that position... How about you guys and gals ?

Usually sitting, but during the rut when I'm sitting long periods I will sit a while then stand a while, so it would be whatever position I happened to be in when the deer came by.

Re: Shoot, sitting down or standing ?
I am definately more stable and shoot better sitting down but most times when a deer comes in I try to stand if I have time so I can maneuver for a shot better if needed.

Most of the time standing. I stand up when I see or hear deer coming.

I use to stand for all my shots, but one of buddies autumn ninja turned me on to sitting...much easier. It's also sitting rather than standing to take your shot also eliminates a lot of movement. Your range is also limited by sitting, I'm talking about being able to maneuver around the tree for those tough shots.

Re: Shoot, sitting down or standing ?
I am not always comfortable shooting from a sitting position, but I will if I'm caught in that circumstance.
Opening hours of first light and last light I always rise to my feet and stand on the ready just for that reason.
Good topic.

Re: Shoot, sitting down or standing ?
I prefer to stand if I know a deer is coming my way and I have time to stand up and I can get away with it. Standing also allows me to move a bit more to shoot around the tree I am in or some other obstacle - especially to my right since I'm right handed and I can't really shoot to the right while sitting. Sometimes I shoot sitting but that's usually when a deer suddenly appears in range and in the right location to allow me to remain sitting to take the shot.

Re: Shoot, sitting down or standing ?
I shot every which way but lose with my compound. Shooting from the seated position is easy with a compound. I am shooting a recurve this year and it is 60 inches long...I am not good shooting from the seated position with that bow. I will be taking all of my shots from standing this year. That is the way I have practiced so that is the way I will play.

I use a Tree saddle. When I am hanging from my saddle my feet are on tree steps and I am in a sitting postion. When it's time to shoot I just slowly striaghten my knees and am in a standing postion, ready to shoot.

Re: Shoot, sitting down or standing ?
Every situation is different. If I don't have to move from sitting, great, I'll take the shot. Most of the time deer dont' do what you want them to, and you gotta get up and turn around. I'm prepared to do whatever is nessesary to get the shot.
A buck will see you three times, and hear you twice, but he's only gonna smell you once.
