Sharing Points or Group Hunting in Iowa

Unread postby westmibow » Fri Dec 20, 2013 1:23 am

Ok I have read through the nonresident booklet and I still am not 100% sure on this. So I am throwing this out to the real experts.

I want to hunt in Iowa in 2015. I already have 3 points and by then will have 5 so that is not the issue. I have a friend that I want to go with. He has not applied yet will next year and then again in 2015 obviously. I really want to go out there with him. So my question is what is the best way to go about that? Can I share one of my points? Or would we apply as a group? It would be in zone 7. Any light you guys can share on this is much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

You cannot share points to get tags in Iowa. Each person has their own preference points that they can buy one per year and that's it.

Of course, double check any info on regs you get in a forum like this with a call to the DNR.

You can apply as a group but your group will be limited to the amount of points that your buddy has.. (Lowest amount in the group). But at least you will either draw or be unsuccessful together.

I would think your buddy would have a decent chance drawing a tag in 2015 in that zone.

Haus is probably right, Zone 7 isn't one of the "hot" destinations for NRs.
Do you have a place to hunt? Public ground is fairly sparse in 7.

I would go to the DNR site and get the rules.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.
