Must HAVE equipment

Unread postby Bucky » Tue Dec 17, 2013 3:41 am

What are some "high" quality pieces of gear that you would definetly buy again if lost or broken

1. Merino wool
2. Buck knife
3. Wicked Gear Handsaw
4. LW Alpha/sticks
5. Fleece or merino wool balaclava

Anyone got a recommendation on hand held light.....

LW sticks and Alpha. Kind of a given but definitely needed.

Coleman Lantern for bloodtrailing...

If lost or stolen, I would definitely buy again:

- LW & climbing sticks
- Good optics Nikon Prostaff binocs.
- Heater Body suit
- Black diamond rock climbing harness
- garmin handheld gps
- obviously a bow that I feel confident shooting
- Nikon prostaff laser rangefinder

As everyone said LW sticks and stand. Handheld light, try nebo redline. They cost about $25 and it's like a spotlight in the palm of your hand

Fiskars PowerGear Lopper, 18-inch. I find the little one hand loppers to be almost worthless.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

For Tracking - CamelBak (smallest available; don't make it anymore - I think it holds 3 or 4qt.)

Good call Stanley. I use the 32" Fiskars Lopper to take off deer legs at the knuckle. Love that lopper.

for a handheld flashligh I bought a little led flashlight that takes AAA's from walmart and it comes with a blue and red lens. The blue lens is great for blood trailing. It is only 5 inches long and very bright. The big difference is the led bulb. I was surprised. I use to buy the little mag lights, but now I only use flashlights with led bulbs.

1. Zipties
2. TP (for the obvious and for marking last-blood when tracking crippled deer)
3. Wool - never cotton.

I added these two items to my pack this year and both worked great.

Replaced my Surefire with this:

Added this knife:

  • 3" blade. Perfect for whitetails.
  • Has a good Firestarter in the handle.

In no particular order:

*Merino wool layers (Minus 33 / First Lite)
*Gray Wolf Woolens wool outer layers (both unlined and lined / insulated)
*Carter Chocolate Lite thumb release
*Lonewolf Assault II and sticks
*GPS Essentials App (free on my Galaxy S3) for recording scouting info and marking trees w/stand info (i.e. cottonwood for Assault+2 sticks, elm for Treesaddle w/screw-in steps, etc.)
*Blacks Creek G7 pack (integral, rigid frame - holds my LW great)
